The Court of Appeal ordered, yesterday, the suspension of today�s nationwide strike called by the BiafraNigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to protest the N1.50 fuel tax. The same court also directed the Federal Government to stay action on the implementation of the fuel tax. The court�s ruling stemmed from an application filed by counsel to the Federal Government, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), for it (court) to elicit an undertaking from NLC�s lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, that his clients would not embark on strike while the appeal was pending. In its ruling, the three-man panel, headed by Justice Isa Salami, held that it was the court�s duty to protect actions brought before it. The ruling: �Since counsel to both parties did not agree for an undertaking, the court has the duty under the constitution to preserve the res. Accordingly, we make the following orders:
