Barely a few hours in police custody, prime suspect in the December 26, 2003 attempted killing of Director-General of National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dr. (Mrs.) Dora Akunyili, has allegedly revealed that a group of businessmen sponsored the failed assassination for N10 million. However, police authorities have received the admission of the alleged attempted contract-killing by the suspect, Mr. Nnamdi Nnakwe with caution, explaining that it may be a diversionary tactic by the suspect to implicate others. But the Police High Command last night announced the arrest of 15 other persons in connection with the attempted killing, even as indications are that President Olusegun Obasanjo may have approved extra security measures for the NAFDAC boss. Daily Champion gathered that upon interrogation at the force headquarters shortly after Mr. Nnakwes lawyer (Mr. Tony Anyanwu) handed over the suspect to the police, the prime suspect "let the cat out of the bag." Surprisingly, not only did the suspect name some major merchants of fake and adulterated drugs which have been seized and destroyed by NAFDAC, but he was also said to have exposed some notable pharmacists....(Champion) |
