Nigeria call in new blood
Genoa's Stephen Makinwa has been included in Nigeria's latest squad
Nigeria have included several uncapped foreign-based professionals in their squad for the invitational LG Cup in Libya.

They include defender Patrick Owomoyela who plays for German side Armenia Bielefeld, Stephen Makinwa from Italian second division team Genoa and Yussuf Ayila, who plays for Ukrainian champions Dynamo Kyiv.

Hungary will also participate in the four-nation tournament, which starts on 20 October.

The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) says the tournament will help coach Christian Chukwu try out untested players before the Super Eagles resume their 2006 World Cup qualifiers.

Nigeria play their next match against Gabon on 26 March.

"There are hundreds of players that are untested and a competition of this magnitude will afford the coach a chance to see them in action," NFA secretary-general Taiwo Ogunjobi told BBC Sport.

"We just hope all the invited foreign players will be available."

However, the bulk of Nigeria's 20-man squad is made up of players from the domestic league.

The last LG Cup, which was held in Lagos in April, was won by Senegal who beat host Nigeria 1-0 in the final.

Nigeria squad:

Goalkeepers:
Chijoke Ejiogu (Dolphins), Sam Okoye (Rangers)

Defenders:
Patrick Owomoyela (Armenia Bielefeld, Germany), Yussuf Ayila (Dynamo Kyiv, Ukraine), Taye Taiwo (Lobi), Obinna Nwaneri, Yusuf Mohammed (both Enyimba), Emeka Ezeala (FC Ismanig, Germany)

Midfielders:
Daniel Njoku (Kwara United), Kola Ademola (Shooting Stars), Musa Aliyu (Enyimba), Stephen Oboh (Insurance), Bawa Mohammed (El-Kanemi), James Obiorah (Spartak Moscow, Russia), Callistus Nwankwo (Nationale)

Strikers:
Kelechi Osunwa (Dolphins), Abubakar Ibrahim (Kano Pillars), Stephen Makinwa (Genoa, Italy), Edirin Egbedi (Novara, Italy), Kabiru Alausa (Berger)
