Reports from Imore village, to the north of Nigeria's biggest city, say that some of the people who died were stealing fuel from the pipeline. The Nigerian oil industry has recurrent problems with local gangs stealing crude oil. An eye-witness said that a spark from the engine of a boat used by oil thieves ignited the fuel on Thursday. Yinka Adamolekun told AFP news agency that he saw at least 12 badly corpses being loaded into vans and taken to a morgue.
