Ain't no tripping. Da month gonna be one of da biggest in hip-hop da whole year. Da bad boys Jay-Z and 50 Cent's G-Unit been jamming with new releases-- The Black Album and Beg For Mercy. That's new school, baby! Check it out!
But da old school has reason to pump it up and celebrate. Slick "Story Teller" Rick is free. Yep, he is free after spending seventeen months in jail awaiting possible deportation to England.
But not all hip-hoppers are celebrating hot new releases and brighter futures and coming out of jail--some are looking at spending time in prison. Eastsidaz' Tray Dee was arrested at his home in Fontana, California, accused of allegedly shooting at people in Long Beach. He was booked on felony charges. East Coast hip-hopper Prodigy of Mobb Deep was also arrested in upstate New York for possesion of a fully-loaded .25 caliber handgun and ganja.
But da bad boy Fabulous is staying cool with da new release More Street Dreams Pt. 2.

Pop music sensation Michael Jackson has been issued an arrest warrant on multiple counts of child molestation. Santa Barbara Sheriffs stormed his San Ynez Valley Neverland Ranch while Mike was in Las Vegas shooting his latest video.
Warrant seeks bail of $3 million and asks that Jackson surrender his passport.

Who said Nelson Mandela is nobody's hero? Well the Big Daddy and Grand Marshall of the Universe played host to AIDS Benefit Concert in Cape Town's Greenpoint Stadium. My kinda girl Beyounce Knowles, U2's Bono, Peter Gabriel (Genesis) and musicians from around the world performed in a sold out concert. Feminist Oprah Winfrey was also in attendance.
The Grammy nominations is here again. Damn! Don't be surprise at what the recording academy voters may pull out on Thursday when the nominations are announced. Nevertheless watch out for my good ole buddies OutKast for Best Album and Best Record categories. That song "Hey Ya" is still blowing up my mind while I figure out how they popped up with da 60's classic rock of Hendrix, and a charm of Marvin Gaye in "The Way You Move."
Also root for Missy Elliot's "Work It," 50 Cent's "In Da Club" and Eminem's "Loose Yourself" from the "8 Mile" Soundtrack.

According to the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), there's no basis for allegations that Michael Jackson abused the 14-year-old who has accused him of molestation.
The report leaked to the The Smoking Gun website said:
quote:The probe's findings were based in large part on interviews with the alleged victim, his two siblings, and the boy's mother. Accordingto the memo, when the child was questioned in February by a social worker assigned to the Sensitive Case Unit of Los Angeles' Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), he 'denied any form of sexual abuse' by Jackson and said that he never 'slept in the same bed as the entertainer.'

The king of pop Michael Jackson has been formally charged in child molestation case in Santa Barbara County, California. Jackson was charged with a nine-count felony complaint, seven counts of lewd acts on a child and two counts of administering intoxicating agents to a child under 14 years old. If convicted of all the counts, Jackson may face a long jail time.
NBC report just released said,
quote:According to sources, in late spring of this year, the alleged victim's mother went to an attorney to complain that her son told her he had been given wine in soda cans and pills by Jackson, was shown pornographic heterosexual videos on a computer and finally that the boy was touched inappropriately while the family was staying at the Neverland Ranch.

It's all good, folks. G-Unit star Tony Yayo has been released from prison, after serving more than a year for weapons possession in New Yorks Lakeview Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility. When he was released, bandmates--including 50 Cent--threw him a lavish party where gifts included a big mansion and a car.
Even better news, and it's all good: In May, Justin Timberlake and Lionel Richie will co-host Motown 45, an ABC special celebrating the legendary label's decades of hit singles. The two-hour performance driven special will be taped April 4 at L.A.'s Shrine Auditorium, with all proceeds going to benefit the United Negro College Fund.

Rap icon Rakim suffered injuries to his face and knees in a Connecticut auto accident. Also suffering from back pain, he's expected to be released from the hospital soon.
Boy, the Grammys has just breezed in. At Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 8, OutKast, Sean Paul, Sting, Justin Timberlake, Black-Eyed Peas, Christina Aguilera and the White Stripes are set to perform. Presenters include Grammy Award winner Norah Jones, Pharrell Williams and John Mayer.
Another kind of performance will be sounding off on February 14 at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, California with da Godfather Snoop Dogg, Bow Wow, Chingy and David Banner playing on a basketball game against some legends of professional basketball. Rapper Free will coach the celebs.

Where were you the moment you heard the news of Marvin Gaye's death twenty years ago? I was just chilling in da hood blowing my funky horn. Yeah, that April 1, 1984 incident caught we Gaye lovers off guard.
At his parents' South Los Angeles home, on April 1, 1984, Gaye, 44, got into an argument with his father Marvin Gaye Sr. when he (sr,) fired to bullets into his son's chest, killing him instantly.
No question, Gaye was ahead of his time when actually nobody knew what he was saying. Themes lime "Let's Get it On" and "Sexual Healing" has made his legacy stronger because one can feel it. Yes, feel it!
It's hard to say anything bad about Usher, these days, especially after his damn good single "Yeah!" featuring Atlanta bad boys Li'l Jon and Ludacris, has held down the top spot on Billboard's Hot 100 singles list for the last six weeks.
How about that Chicago-based beat maker Kanye West guy? Check it out. It's called "Slow Jamz."

The other day I was out on a laid-back night in my neigborhood. I had a nice time, but something very unfamiliar happened. The guys I hanged out with talked about the Blues and Charlie Musselwhite's new album, Sanctuary, just released on Peter Gabriel's Real World Records.
The famed harmonica player, singer and songwriter Charlie Musselwhite was actually hanging out that same night I found myself in the House of Blues. It was a whole lotta jive, eating and some few drinks, and the frequent use of the men's restroom.
Well, Charlie Musselwhite's Southside Band was on stage that night with assembling musicians Charlie Sexton, and Ben Harper on guitars, Jared Nicholson on bass, Michael Jerome on drums, and the rest of the crew backing up a few tracks with Charlie's vocals and harp, this session was fabulous.
With that night in mind, I'm going back to the Blues for a brief change--John Lee Hooker, B. B. King, Bobby "Blue" Bland, J.J. "Bad Boy" Jones, Dinah Washington, Nathan James & The Double Five, Roy Gaines, Jonny Lang, Shemekia Copeland, The Holmes Brothers, Curtis Salgado and many more. So make sure you check out the Blues, and do your own thing while it lasts.
You know they stole the Blues away from us. Don't let them take it away, again!
Lil' Kim's apparent tall tales are causing the diminutive rapper some trouble.
Kim is free on $500,000 bond after being indicted Wednesday on eight felony charges for allegedly lying to a federal grand jury investigating a 2001 shootout involving her posse.
The 28-year-old hip-hopster was charged under her real name, Kimberly Jones, with conspiracy to commit perjury, making false statements and obstructing justice.
Her manager (Damion Butler), bodyguard (Suif Jackson) and friend (Monique Dopwell) were also charged in the case.
Kim surrendered early Wednesday at the U.S. District Court in Manhattan. She was released hours later after appearing before a judge, pleading not guilty to all charges and posting bond.
Her attorney, Mel Sachs, told reporters, "These charges are baseless and I'm confident that the case against her will be completely dismissed."
Court documents, published on The Smoking Gun, claim Kim lied about the gunplay she witnessed outside the offices of New York radio station Hot 97 following an interview on Feb. 25, 2001.
Kim--who's also referred to as Notorious Kim and Queen Bee--and her posse were said to be leaving the WQHT building as rap duo Capone-N-Noreaga's crew was arriving. Shots were fired, leaving one man with a bullet in his back.
According to the indictment, Kim refused to ID to cops the members of her entourage who had accompanied her to the radio station. She also went on to lie during three grand jury appearances last year about what she saw, what information she might have about a possible motive and her relationship to the suspected shooters, Butler and Jackson.
According to prosecutors, Butler and Jackson were introduced to Kim in the mid '90s through Notorious B.I.G., when she was a part of the Junior M.A.F.I.A. rap group. Butler allegedly went on to work out of Kim's home while Jackson was a frequent house guest.
Sources suggest the battle stemmed from a feud between Kim and fellow rapper Foxy Brown and that after the shootout the gunmen drove back to Kim's Englewood, New Jersey, home where they disposed of their guns.
But in prior testimony, Kim denied seeing Butler on the day in question and claimed not to be familiar with Jackson.
Just last year, Kim appeared to have resolved her legal woes when she posted $350 bail on a four-year-old warrant stemming from a July 1996 bust at Biggie's home. She had been charged with marijuana possession but never showed in court.
Aside from her raunchy raps and legal scraps, Kim is best known for her skimpy outfits (remember Diana Ross tweaking Kim's boob at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards?), a couple Old Navy ads and for teaming up with Christina Aguilera , Pink, Mya and Missy Elliott for the smash hit remake of "Lady Marmalade," which earned the quintet a Grammy.

After laying low for nearly a decade, funkster William Bootsy Collins is back with a new album, Play With Bootsy, which is sure to please the funkified masses with its blend of funk, blues, electronica, hip-hop, and rock. It features guest appearances by Snoop Dogg, Bootsy's funkadelic father General George Clinton, Macy Gray, Fatboy Slim and Bobby Womack.
The album drops June 8th on Thump Records, whose mission is to revive older acts like Bootsy, Lakeside, Midnight Star, Carl Carlton, Cameo and a whole lot of funked-up acts from the Mothership Connection era.

Yep, Sugar Hill Gang started it all when they borrowed some jazz flavors and R&B; hooks dropping the smash hit "Rapper's Delight" while Grand Master Flash got on the edge sending "The Message" from New York's Radio City Music Hall.
Now the bastards and rats at Hidden Beach Recordings just released "Unwrapped, Vol 3" of the "Unwrapped" series. In this continuation where the previous two left off, is the extended remix of Eminem's immensely popular track "Lose Yourself," from the film 8-Mile. The song begins just like the Eminem version, but this particular track has a distinct Mississippi-Delta-blues supported by an awesome violin solo straight from bad boy Wu-Tang's "Forever."
Other tracks include Busta Rhymes' "I Know What You Want," with Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg and the Neptunes' "Beautiful," the organ-driven remake of Lauren Hill's classic.
Check this collection out because it is a truly special with dedication to three of hip-hop heroes, Tupac, Biggie and Jam Master Jay.--a winning trip down memory lane.

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 6 � Funk legend Rick James, best known for the 1981 hit ''Super Freak'' before his career collapsed in a cloud of violent drug charges, died Friday. He was 56.
James died in his sleep at his residence near Universal City, apparently of natural causes, said his publicist, Sujata Murthy. James lived alone and was found dead by his personal assistant, who notified police, she said. The exact cause was not immediately known. ''There'll be an autopsy and we'll find that out shortly,'' Murthy said. With long hair elaborately styled in braids or Jheri curls, James was one of the biggest R&B; stars of the 1980s, composing danceable rhythms and passionate ballads that gained a wide following. Aside from ''Super Freak'' � which MC Hammer used a decade later as the backing track for his rap smash ''U Can't Touch This'' � James' hits included ''Mary Jane,'' ''Ebony Eyes'' and ''Fire and Desire,'' a stirring duet with Teena Marie. ''He was really fantastic, he was a creator,'' singer Little Richard told MSNBC. Toward the end of the '80s, James' fame began to fade as he became embroiled in drugs, legal problems and health troubles. In 1993 he was convicted in two separate cases of assaulting women. The first case occurred in 1991, when prosecutors said James and his girlfriend tied a woman to a chair, burned her with a hot crack pipe and forced her to perform sex acts during a cocaine binge at his West Hollywood home. James was free on bail when the second assault occurred in 1992 in James' hotel room. He served more than two years in Folsom Prison. In 1997 he released a new album, but a year later he suffered a stroke while performing at Denver's Mammoth Events Center, derailing a comeback tour. In 1998 he also underwent hip replacement surgery. James was not married and names of survivors were not immediately available, Murthy said. Funeral arrangements were being planned.
