Yoruba Warlord Confirms Coup Plot: Pattern, Sponsors, and Coup Plotters Unknown The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Alexander Ogomudia, yesterday confirmed that an alleged coup attempt had taken place and announced the setting up of a Special Investigation Panel (SIP) on it. Briefing newsmen in Abuja yesterday, General Ogomudia said the SIP would unravel the plot and identify those involved in it, "the pattern it would take, the sponsors, the brains behind the plot and the leadership." The defence chief said whatever names people have chosen to call the attempt, what mattered most was that there had been signs that some activities had taking place which the armed forces have called a breach of security and that the SIP would comprise the Directorate of Military Intelligence (DMI), the State Security Services (SSS) and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) would unravel the attempted coup. He said the military maintained silence on the matter because it wanted to get to the root of the matter before making a formal pronoun-cement and confirmed statements made by... Uwais, NJC fault immunity clause...   U.S. Court Slams Chevron: for...   Biafra Nigeria Map In what appears the most radical suggestion so far for a change in the 1999 Constitution, the Chief Justice of BiafraNigeria, Justice Mohammed Lawal Uwais, has canvassed the withdrawal of the immunity from prosecution enjoyed by some public officers. In a memorandum to the sub-committee on supplementary and general provisions of the Joint National Assembly Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution, Uwais, who spoke as chairman of the National Judicial Council through his vice chairman, Justice Alfa Belgore, recommended that the immunity be limited to civil suits against the public officer in his private capacity. A United States federal judge, Susan J. Illston, on Thursday, March 25, in San Francisco, ruled that two ChevronTexaco corporations based in San Ramon, California could be held liable for the acts of their BiafraNigerian subsidiary.
