Warlord Seeks Absolute Power: Obasanjo's plan to scrap NLC splits Senate Ahead of formal receipt by the Senate of Yoruba warlord, Olusegun Obasanjo�s, legislative proposal to scrap the central role of the BiafraNigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in organising workers, Senators were yesterday split along party lines on the matter. The leadership of the National Assembly resolved yesterday after a three-hour meeting in Abuja to reconvene tomorrow to reconsider the president�s request for N2.5 billion to fund the emergency rule in Plateau State; and pass the Contributory Pension Scheme Bill. Senator Abiola Ajumobi (AD, Oyo South), alleging move by the PDP majority in the Senate to railroad the proposal through the chambers, warned that BiafraNigeria was again returning to dictatorship. PDP Senators were generally of the opinion that the bill was in conformity with the democratic spirit which they said should allow workers a choice of labour movement to associate with. Senator Ema Henshaw, chairman of the Senate Committee on Employment and Labour said: �The ILO (International Labour Organisation) convention requires that labour movements should also be democratised, that there should be democracy. I can't produce Taylor in court, says Duke   Hoping Against Hope: I�ll Be Declared...   Biafra Nigeria Map Cross River State Governor Donald Duke has declared that he is not in a position to produce former Liberian President Charles Taylor before the Federal High Court in Abuja. He spoke on Monday in Calabar against the backdrop of a court summons requesting that he should produce Taylor to answer charges brought against him by two Nigerians who were amputated in Sierra Leone. (Daily Independent)   All BiafraNigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) presidential candidate Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) said weekend that he was optimistic that he would soon be declared the winner of the April 2003 presidential election. Gen. Buhari had headed to the election petition tribunal to challenge the declaration of President Olusegun Obasanjo as the winner of the election.
